What is the Geer Family Association?

The Geer Family Association was formed in 1976, the year of America's Bicentennial Celebration, in Ledyard, Connecticut, home of the first Geer settler in this country. In June of that year the first Geer Family reunion was held in Ledyard, and the group was officially organized. Work was begun on an update of the genealogy first published in 1923 by Walter Geer. A newsletter found its way into the mailboxes of members, and Geers all across the country began to call new friends "cousin."

Many of the Geers in the United States today are descended from two brothers, George and Thomas Geer, who emigrated from England in 1638 (see History page) and settled in Ledyard and Enfield, Connecticut, respectively. A number of spellings of the surname exist among these descendants, including those Gere, Gear, Geers, Geere, and others.
